This is what I have planned: 

The Ark will act as a base, and from there you will prepare expeditions to other planets, interact with your crew and all kinds of things. When you go on an expedition, you will find dangers that you will have to fight (or flee). The planets will have procedural components to avoid repetition (I will avoid empty planets). On each expedition you will collect new species, objects of interest, etc. I have to specify many things but that is the general idea of the game.
